I am hoping to get some input to compare my shelter's staffing levels, animal intake and hours open to the public to other shelters with similar intake numbers.

My shelter takes in an average of 1200 animals annually  and we have 9 RFT staff.
This includes: Shelter Manager, Community Outreach, Animal Health Technician, Animal Welfare Attendant, Animal Shelter Attendant(reception) and 4 Animal Care Staff.

If your shelter has an annual intake between 900-2500 animals, could you share how many staff you have and what their roles are?

    Thank you,

    Hi Shelley!

Great question! I'll be following to learn!  We are a shelter with 1.5 staff  - the ED and a part-time maintenance manager.  We handle 600 animals each year with a robust foster program.

    Hi Shelley!

We have an annual intake of just over 1,100 (only dogs and cats).

We have a total of 10 employees:  Shelter Director, Foster and Volunteer Manager, Animal Care Supervisor, Animal Placements Coordinator,  and 4 F/T Kennel attendants and 2 P/T Kennel Attendants, however everyone assists with kennel cleaning duties as needed.  The placements coordinator handles all emails and voicemails, and is the main employee to handle front desk duties (incoming and outgoing animals) but receives a lot of support from Manager and Director (as it's a lot to handle).

We intake 2000-2500 animals per year. We have 6 full time personnel. Shelter director, 2 ACOs, 3 kennel workers, and 3 part-time volunteers who help with adoptions, pictures, paperwork. We are open to the public M-F, 10-4, and an occasional weekend.
