    Hi everyone,

My name is Rachel, and I'm a recent graduate from the UF. I've always been passionate about animal welfare and knew I wanted to build a career in the nonprofit world. I recently started a new position focused on grant writing and development, and I'm excited to be diving into this work!

One of my first projects is to research different grant portals to see whether they're worth the investment and, if so, which ones might be the best fit for our organization. Since I'm still pretty new to this space, I'd love to hear from others who have experience with them. Have you found certain platforms especially helpful (or not worth the cost)? Any advice on what to look for or avoid?

Thanks in advance! I'm looking forward to learning from all of you and connecting with others who share a passion for this work.

GrantStation and GrantWatch are my favorite  databases, they're pretty similar and intuitive to use though they can be pricey. Both of these grant hubs have deals throughout the year so unless they're on sale yet, I would wait until the next major holiday, Labor Day for example. Best wishes!

    Hi Rachel,

I write some of our grants. We paid for a grant portal once and was disappointed in the results. I have found that doing an online search with key words worked much better and I've found numerous grants listed for animal welfare. It does take time to review each grant's criteria but I think it's worth the time. Another resource is "word of mouth". We've received information  from rescue and shelter partners as well as supporters with suggestions for grants that we can apply for.

Good luck in your new position,

    Lori
