Thank you Lisa! The tshirt idea sounds great. I was involved in a Western Heroes group before COVID that put on a benefit rodeo to support our local Autism group. We did tshirts for it as well. Don't know why I didn't think of that earlier.
Western Heroes also received goods and services from local businesses and private donors for a silent auction during our rodeo. That worked out well. Unfortunately, to do that for the rescue would be difficult; since we don't have a community event or location that's set up for large groups of community members.

Hi Karen,
I have not had luck with our local feed stores. We too are a rural sanctuary. We take in farm and exotic animals mainly. I have a volunteer currently reaching out to local businesses in neighboring areas to see if they would like to sponsor an animal or be a community sponsor in general by either donating a specific $ amount or with in-kind donations. We started our nonprofit in 2017 and it has been a constant struggle to get the community involved. We have found that if we offer something in return it helps. For instance we hosted a tshirt fundraiser and secured 7 local businesses who each donate $300 to help cover the cost of 150 tshirts . In exchange their biz was listed on the back of the shirt as a community sponsor and we gave each of them 5 tshirts to distribute how they wanted at no cost. We were able to then sell the tshirts to raise additional funds. We worked with a local printer who further discounted the cost of the tshirts. We were able to raise over $3K after the cost was deducted.

Thank you for the link to Greater Goods Charities. I plan on working on the today. As far as locale businesses, we are a small rural shelter and have no pet store options within our area. We have reached out to a couple of farm and ranch businesses. So far no success. Any other ideas for receiving donations for a small, rural rescue?

Hi Chastidy,
Don't give up. We did the same and it took time to find the perfect match for donations. We were asking for donations to our community pet food bank. We reached out to several local pet stores with no luck until one, Leo & Lucky's, said yes. When we asked for the in-kind donations we told the biz owners that we would list them as sponsors on our website with a link back to their website as well as shout outs on our social media pages. Once we shared the one that said yes we had two other businesses reach out to us offering to help. In addition to Leo & Lucky's we currently have Pet supplies plus and DogPerfect as donors. You might want to also reach out to other larger rescues/shelters in your area. We receive donations from a large dog/cat rescue of items that are donated to them but they don't use or have too much of such as laundry soap, towels, blankets, pet beds, etc. If you haven't already, you should look into the Greater Good Charities, GOODS program

Hi All!
We are a relatively new rescue (2 years) and have adopted over 100 cats this year alone. I am trying to make connections with any pet stores/food suppliers but coming up against walls. I would love any tips you have on successfully finding recurring supply donations! I've emailed our local feed and pet stores, as well as Mudbay, and Petsmart so far.
