  • 1.  TODAY: Shelter Dog Evaluations, The Welfare-Based Approach with Sada Salazar at The Hub

    Posted 09-21-2024 09:05 AM

Hello all! I'm Andrea Bazett, the co-founder of The Hub, by Pack Animals, in San Ramon, CA and we're thrilled to be hosting Sada Salazar, Canine Aggression and Fear Specialist,  today for an expert seminar on a very important topic: Shelter dog behavior evaluations. It can be attended in person or virtually by zoom.

As I've learned from Sada and other rescue and shelter professionals, stress, arousal, fear, uncertainty, anxiety, frustration and pain are all drivers of responses in dogs, and that's why a welfare and wellness based approach is very important. It can lead to a more reliable and mindful evaluation outcome.

What kinds of questions do you have about evaluations?

Would you like to attend? The seminar starts at 12pm PT on 9/21 (recording will not be available, unfortunately). Click here to register.

The Hub has also hosted a range of human and canine professionals - Veterinarians, Veterinary Specialists, Neuroscientists, Trainers, Canine Cognition Researchers, Shelter professionals, etc - and workshops with rescues. If you'd like to learn more about how to be involved with The Hub, I would be happy to chat! Click here for more info on The Hub.

*Note: The Hub is a pure positive reinforcement and fear free facility for dogs of all ages, breeds and backgrounds. We are like a gym for dogs and their humans, and a first of its kind facility with a goal to improve human and canine lifelong wellbeing simultaneously.

This is a wonderful topic and I was bummed to have missed it! I tried to register but think I was too late. I hope that in the future the content is available. Thanks!

Thank you, Julia! I meant to post about the talk with more advance notice but didn't end up having a chance to do so.

The next time Sada will be speaking at The Hub will be on Saturday, October 12th for two seminars:

12pm: EXPERT EVENT: Freedom From Fear: Supporting Scared Dogs in Shelter Environments

3pm: EXPERT EVENT: When Fido is Fearful: Guardians and Guides of Anxious and Fearful Dogs

If there are any questions that you would like me to pass along to Sada to cover in her next talk, please let me know!
