Hi Nicole,
The shelter I work for is also in NC, but in WNC, in Asheville. We have 2 vets at our shelter and they may be amenable to shadowing, but I think the distance would probably be too prohibitive. I suggest looking the the triangle area, there are lots of great orgs around there. One that comes to mind is Dega Mobile vet. They are a mobile vet dedicated to assisting the pets of the homeless and other underserved populations.

Subject: Veterinary School Applicant Seeking Shadowing Opportunities – Open to All Settings
Hi everyone! I'm looking for help finding a vet willing to let me shadow 🐾
My name is Nicole Limongiello-I'm a U.S. Air Force veteran, non profit animal rescue founder, and aspiring veterinarian based in Fayetteville, North Carolina. I'm currently preparing to apply to veterinary school and need to complete 200 hours of supervised experience under a licensed vet, as required for admission.
I'm reaching out to see if anyone here might be able to connect me with a veterinarian or clinic who would be open to having me shadow or assist. I'm flexible, eager to help in any way I can (cleaning, restraining, observing, etc.), and happy to work around whatever schedule is most convenient for the clinic.
A little background on me:
- I run a 501(c)(3) nonprofit rescue in NC called Paws at Home, focused on saving animals from the streets of the South and underserved rural areas.
- I've been involved in animal welfare since I was a child, including years of volunteering at the NHSPCA.
- I'm also a certified military yoga instructor and plan to incorporate animal-assisted wellness into my future veterinary practice to support fellow veterans.
If you know of a vet who might be open to this-or are one yourself-I would love to connect. Please feel free to message me or comment below. Thank you so much for supporting the next generation of vets!
