Maddie's Insights: Treatment Options for Canine Fears and Anxiety

When:  Mar 9, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 01:00 PM (PT)
Associated with  Animal Welfare Professionals

Join us on the second Thursday every month for a series on the latest research in animal well-being and how you can use the findings in your shelter and community.

This webinar will be presented by one of the world’s most noted animal behaviorists, Nick Dodman, DVM, and Ian Dinwoodie, Software Engineer/Data Analyst, both of Tufts University and the Center for Canine Behavior Studies.

DATE: Thursday, March 9 at noon Pacific / 2pm Central / 3pm Eastern

The presenters will discuss the results of their recent publication concerning optimal treatments for various canine behavior issues related to fear and anxiety. In a previous study, they showed that 44% of all dogs have one or more of such issues, so treatment of these problems, ranging from separation anxiety, storm a noise phobia, to generalized anxiety and PTSD, should be of wide interest. They will detail the odds of improvement in individual problems of this nature that are treated by different types of professionals, the programs and techniques they employ, and the success of each.

Viewers will:
1. Learn which behavior professional to consult for the best chance of success with each individual fear and anxiety behavior problem
2. The best behavior modification techniques to be employed for each problem
3. Optimal supportive and manage-mental measures
4. The likely success or failure of different treatments for each problem, including which medical interventions might help, and whether nutraceuticals and dietary measures might help

Going to try to make this. We run a sanctuary for dogs deemed unadoptable due to extreme behavioral issues, mostly fear/anxiety based issues. Our approach to these dogs seems to be very different from what we see happening in shelters, with owned pets or with our colleagues in rescue.  Very interested in what the latest research has turned up. Fears occur not only in animals but also in people. Of course, the methods of dealing with them are different. I want to share https://us.calmerry.com/therapy-for-anxiety where they helped me overcome my fear of animals. Even since childhood I was very afraid of them, but I had no reason to be. So I needed help from specialists.
