Hi, I'm Genie Goldring, co-founder of The Inner Pup (TIP), a New Orleans-based nonprofit my daughter and I launched in 2014 to address the deep inequities in both human and pet health. Our mission is to keep pets in loving homes by providing low-cost veterinary care, education, and resources to low-income pet owners. We aim to prevent the need for surrendering pets to shelters, with a special focus on eradicating heartworm disease-an issue that disproportionately affects underserved communities in our region.
Through our flagship program, we host monthly Heartworm and Flea Prevention Clinics in high-need neighborhoods, offering prevention, education, and relationship-building opportunities. To date, we've conducted over 117 clinics and served thousands of families, helping administer over 44,000 months of heartworm prevention and 33,000 months of flea prevention.
What makes TIP unique is that our clinics aren't just about pet care; they serve as a gateway to building trust with community members, allowing us to support their broader health and wellness needs. Our ultimate goal is to develop a scalable, community-driven model of animal welfare that can be replicated in underserved areas across the country.
I'm excited to be part of the One Health community, where we can continue bridging the gap between human and animal welfare to improve the well-being of both pets and their people. Looking forward to connecting!
