    Posted 09-23-2025 06:00 AM

Today, we honor the impact political dogs (and other pets) have had on American history and society, particularly on a day named after Richard Nixon's dog, Checkers. The holiday was established to remember the significance of presidential pets like Nixon's loyal cocker spaniel, who became a media sensation. To celebrate National Dogs in Politics Day, can you match the President with their pet?

George H.W. Bush had another dog named Ranger. In 1992, Ranger got so overweight that President Bush sent an official memo to White House staff asking them to pledge not to feed him or give him any treats! A cute story about a strong bond between a man and his dog

George HW Bush presidential memo asking staff not to feed overweight dog resurfaces for #InternationalDogDay
