As a professional dog trainer, three of the most amusing realities of talking with dog owners, pet industry experts, rescue shelter managers, breeders, pet insurers and other interested parties, are firstly, the inevitable mention of 'Responsible Ownership',   secondly, everyone has their own personal & professional opinion on what that is supposed to mean in practice, and thirdly nobody has any time to consider how to change the  irresponsible nature of so many adoptions because they are too busy - and often burnt out - chasing the problem, rather than stopping, thining and taking simple steps to prevent it happening in the first place.    Basically, when it comes to dog adoption and ownership,  there is no general nor practical consensus compared to the minimum standards of car ownership and a qualification to drive on a public road.  Over the past year, we (the Dog Internet Company) have clobbered together the views of over 50-experts and condensed the findings into a Basic Dog Care Skills course. The mission is to change the 'Easy to Adopt & Easy to Abandon' culture while a secondary outcome is the expectation of an end to the puppy mill trade and an easing of the burden presently carried by SPCAs and animal charities. The has been backed by some of Americas leading canine welfare experts and supported by the world's largest e-learning platform. For anyone working or volunteering with a rescue shelter or animal charity the course & certification is completely free. Should you be interested in a review, please drop a note here.
