Seeking Executive Director for Safe Animal Shelter, a nonprofit animal shelter located in Middleburg, Florida

Safe Animal Shelter (SAS) is a private, no-kill, 501(c)(3), nonprofit shelter with a mission to reduce the number of cats and dogs euthanized in Clay County Florida, and surrounding areas.

 Executive Director Job Description

 The Executive Director is the public face of Safe Animal Shelter (SAS) promoting the mission of SAS, cultivating, and maintaining funding sources in furtherance of the Board of Director’s plans, programs, and policies, overseeing operations of the shelter and reporting of such to the Board of Directors. 

 Specifically, the Executive Director will:

  • Coordinate with the Board Treasurer to create, manage and report on an annual budget.
  • Develop, plan, and execute activities to identify and develop relationships and ensure individual donors and corporate sponsors are engaged year-round, educated about SAS, and are informed about the impact they are making
  • Develop strategies to grow the base of donors through direct mail, online e-campaigns, monthly giving, newsletters and in-person solicitation  
  • Enhance organization’s development capability through annual campaigns, special events, grant requests, capital campaigns programs, and bequests
  • Build, coordinate and evaluate strategic partnerships with county council, animal control agencies, local veterinarians, and pet supply stores
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Shelter Manager regarding day-to-day operations and assure that operations are in line with the mission, the Board of Directors’ policies and procedures and the By-Laws
  • Work with Shelter Manager to ensure that software is adequate and is optimally used to provide up-to-date high-quality information on animals, finances, and other operational functions
  • Provide reporting to the Board of Directors as requested
  • Serve as Personnel Director for recruitment, hiring, disciplinary actions, and terminations

 Qualifications

  • Minimum associates degree in animal welfare, nonprofit, education, business, or finance (required)
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in animal welfare/rescue or a humanitarian organization strongly preferred with a compassionate approach to animal welfare
  • Experience in budget development and managing/reporting against budget
  • Strong written and oral communication and public speaking skills
  • Experience in fundraising programs, grant writing, social media, special events, donor relations and/or capital campaigns
  • Excellent computer fluency
  • Ability to convey the shelter’s strategic future to staff, Board, donors, sponsors, and the community
  • Experience in a nonprofit environment either as a leader or a Board member 
  • Workday/hour flexibility for meetings and/or events
