Zero Discrimination Day (March 1)

  • 1.  Zero Discrimination Day (March 1)

Zero Discrimination Day is observed globally every year on March 1. It was launched by UNAIDS to promote equality, inclusion, and dignity for all people, regardless of race, gender, sexuality, disability, immigration status, health condition, or any other identity. At its core, it's about calling out how discrimination shows up in everyday systems (healthcare, housing, education, employment) and pushing for a world where everyone has the same chance to thrive.

In One Health, we see this intersection clearly; barriers to human healthcare, veterinary care, housing, transportation, or culturally responsive services often affect entire families, including their pets.

    Questions for discussion and reflection:

    • What does "zero discrimination" look like in practice in your field, and where do you think we still have the most work to do?

    • What's one policy, practice, or partnership you've seen that meaningfully improved equitable access for people and their pets?
