  • 1.  Animal Rescue - Spay/Neuter Survey

    Posted 02-07-2025 03:38 PM

    Hello!

My name is Grace McIntyre and I am a Ph.D. student at the University of Michigan. I am performing volunteer research on spay and neuter operations for a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing abused and abandoned dogs in Puerto Rico. As part of this work, I am interviewing animal shelters and clinics to learn more about their budget allocation, cost minimization strategies, and funding.

Would you be willing to fill out a very brief (~5 minutes) survey telling us about your organization? Your insights will help develop more efficient and cost-effective approaches to animal care in Puerto Rico, where the stray dog crisis has reached alarming new heights.

Follow this link to the Survey:

We hope that you will consider providing your input to help us achieve this goal!

    Thank you,

    Grace McIntyre

    Hello Grace,

I have re-posted your post above to our AAWA (Association for Animal Welfare Advancement) and ACCAT (Animal Care & Control Assoc of TN) pages. Hopefully more fill our your survey.

Under the One Health umbrella, are you, or another, collecting any information on the humans (care takers/owners)?

    Good morning T' Fisher,

Thank you for helping disseminate our survey. At this time, we are not collecting information on the humans (care takers/owners) of the animals, only on the facilities/organizations caring for the animals.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

    Grace

Your survey asks questions about "TNR" services. I answered them under the assumption that your survey only refers to services provided for DOGS. Many organizations engage, at some level, in TNR services for community cats, but I am not aware of any U.S. organizations that are providing TNR services for dogs and dogs are not legally allowed to be free-roaming in most (or all?) communities in the U.S. Might be important to clarify how people who respond to your survey are answering this question.

    Hi Rachel,

Thank you so much for your question. You are correct in that we are only inquiring about dogs at this time.

In regards to TNR, I wanted to thank you for brining the legal issue to our attention. We are doing our research to help an organization in Puerto Rico where TNR is allowed due to the large animal crisis there.

With the design of the survey, you cannot navigate back and you will have to fill out your responses again. I apologize for the inconvenience. Here are the survey links:

Thank you for your time. I really appreciate your support!

When I went back to the survey to make sure I had answered correctly (based on the dog assumption), the survey will not allow me to navigate to the previous screens but only to go forward, so I was unable to complete the survey. Please re-post if you're able to make it possible to navigate or delete an uncompleted survey and start over.
