In August, we observe National Immunization Awareness Month… a time to talk all things immunizations (aka vaccines or shots). Getting vaccines, whether for you, your children, or your pets, is as much about protecting the one getting the shot as it is about protecting the ones around them. Let's all do our part for our communities and make sure that we and our families are up to date on our vaccines!
Some people and animals cannot get vaccines either because they are allergic or because they have a weakened immune system. While this is rare, it does happen sometimes. That's why it is important for all other people and pets to get the vaccines to prevent diseases and infections from passing on to others. It's also important to stick to the recommended schedules for when to receive vaccines.
Here are the recommended schedules for:
Children
Adults
Dogs
Cats
If you ever have questions about immunizations or need advice, you can always ask your doctor or veterinarian!
I spent a few years of my career working in clinical research on a few different types of vaccines for humans. I'd love to get some conversations going here about questions anyone might have related to vaccines or how they are developed! What have you always wanted to know? What do you hear from your patients or clients at work?
