Did you read this article? Fifth Third is helping pet families and their communities stay healthy.
What organizations/agencies do you know that are not animal welfare specific that are helping keep their communities healthy?

That is so amazing! I am always in support of those who are putting action behind holidays like this, as it makes them much more meaningful. It makes me happy to see  bigger organizations acknowledging the importance of the human-animal bond. In Washington D.C., there is a newly proposed bill by the D.C. Council that allows for more accessible pet-friendly shelters for those who are unhoused, which would be a great step in the right direction if passed.

    Thanks for the post Kayla!
Absolutely, more accessible and pet-friendly shelters would make a huge difference. Does anyone have examples of locations where these shelters already exist and prove impact for Community Health?

This is amazing--thank you for sharing! I also agree with Kayla about these kinds of efforts making similarly themed holidays meaningful. :-)

While this may be far less direct, what comes to my mind is the NIH's work serving as a repository for data on zoonotic diseases (and beyond, of course) helps benefit communities through improved efforts to reduce such cases and raise awareness of the importance of interdisciplinary approaches to curbing outbreaks. Elina Horefti's "The Importance of the One Health Concept in Combating Zoonoses" talks more in-depth about the role of One Health in combating zoonotic diseases.

I would be highly interested in learning about more organizations that are not directly related to pets or animal welfare that are working to keep communities happy and healthy!
