    I never thought I would be a family that didn't have a dog, and we joke that our only pets are hermit crabs. The truth is they bring me a lot of joy. I love adding items to their "crabitat" to make them happy and active. My newest addition was a couple of live plants that are safe for them to crawl on and in. Here is a picture of Bernice enjoying her home. She loves to stay up high, so I always make sure she has lots of things to climb.

    We currently have 5 lovely cats that captured our hearts and run our household.

    The Caboodles, Nellie and Teddy (aka Killer Ted) were trapped and spayed by my daughter as a college student. Somehow the "Return" part of TNR didn't happen, and we found ourselves with two feral cats, just under a year old, who were happy to do rat patrol in our basement in echange for 2 squares a day and a variety of warm, soft beds. They were quick to draw human blood when they first came 9+ years ago, but have become quite affectionate now--on their own terms, of course.

    Teddy and Nell were very close to each other for the first 18 months with us: always snuggled together, lots of mutual grooming, etc.  But all that changed when Nellie's coat became horribly matted and she had to be shaved by the vet.  Nell has one of the most outrageously floofy, long coats you'll ever see on a cat, After she was shaved, we found that the dominant cat beneath all the floof was a little 6.5 pounder.  Ted flew into a rage when he saw her and realized that she had been pushing him out of food bowls, the sunniest beds... Despite a great deal of effort on my part, the rift between them was never repaired.  Nellie eventually moved upstairs.

    The young Whippersnapper, Bugsy Malone, showed up in our yard about 8 years ago. We advertised for the owner--he was a healthy looking black cat, around 7 - 8 months old at the time, but it looked like his balls got bigger by the hour!  I took him to be neutered but not ear tipped, as I was sure an owner would appear for such a sweet, sweet kitty.  Eventually I realized an owner wouldn't show up, so Bugsy moved into the house.  He and Nellie ignored each other, but one day he accidentally encountered Ted face-to-face. His blood-curdling scream brought us running to find his torn ear was spurting blood all over the dining room walls (even a couple of drops on the ceiling!). Ted looked on with satisfaction, then husled back down to the basement.

    Our youngest kitties, Eggo and Lego, just turned 3. I call them the Waffles.  They were born in Kotor Montenegro, about 2 weeks and 0.5 kilomTNR cats.  Lego had a nasty infection and lost her eye.  They survived panleukopenia together, were adopted together by an American expat, who then abandoned them together back onf the streets of Kotor.  Adopters being nearly impossible to come by there, they eventually came home to Seattle with me.  Although they have calmed down a little, they still have the whackiest fun together than you can imagine!

    I broke out fresh catnip to celebrate Love Your Pet Day!

    We currently have 2 mixed breed dogs, Charlie and Angus, and one cat, Luna. They are the best companions and bring so much joy and silliness to our lives!

    I work from home and so am lucky to get regular animal snuggles during meetings. The dogs are true adventure dogs at heart and their favourite thing is running through the woods across from our house! Taking the time out of my day to take them on an adventure is a joy for both them and for me :)

    I agree Katelyn, working from home is great for my family - my dog and I. He motivates me to get up and move about and just breathe. I love how everyones cats feel they need to join the zoom mtgs and it is second nature now. Nobody is surprised when a cat tail sashay across the screen. LOL. They lighten our mental load without even knowing it.
