This week, the United Nations celebrated International Youth Day and the theme for 2026 is Different Contexts, Common Aspirations. This theme acknowledges that, while the youth around the world come from different regions and cultures, they share the same hopes which include dignity and opportunity as well as a sustainable future.

An investment in One Health is an investment in our youth. The earth and the plants and animals that live on it don't just belong to us, they belong to future generations as well. We have a duty to promote environmental health so today's youth can enjoy the same planet that we have.

One Health also means advocating for the health and well-being of our youth. One of the points the UN is focusing on this year is that injuries account for about half of all deaths of youth worldwide. In our communities, we can take steps to help with that- preparing for natural disasters, promoting gun and car safety, and supporting politicians who fight for the best interests of our youth.

How does your organization invest in your community's youth?
