In August, we observe National Water Quality Month. We recognize the importance of having access to clean water and keeping our ecosystems healthy. We also talk about ways that we can contribute in our every day lives!
When we think about a One Health society, we recognize that the health of humans, animals, and the environment is all connected. We need to do our part to keep our environment clean and thriving and, in turn, we use the oxygen and water provided by the environment.
Top on the list of recommended steps for us to take in our communities to protect our water is to pick up after our pets! Animal waste contains large amounts of nitrogen that can contaminate local water sources and render them unlivable for aquatic life.
At your organizations, do you discuss the environmental impact of pets and how to keep your communities clean?
