Pets play an important role in the lives, safety, and overall well-being of many social work clients. Across practice areas—including housing, child welfare, aging services, behavioral health, and interpersonal violence—clients’ decisions and outcomes are often closely tied to their relationships with their pets. When pets are not considered in service planning, it can unintentionally create barriers to safety, care, and long-term stability.
In recognition of Social Work Month, this webinar explores why pets should be recognized as part of the client system. Grounded in a One Health framework, the session will highlight how the human–animal bond can influence client engagement, risk factors, and access to services, and why pet-inclusive approaches are essential to ethical and effective social work practice.
Panelists include @Kayla Anderson with the Center for Pet Family Well-Being, @Cassidy Moreau with the Veterinary Health Center at Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, and @Diana Gonzales with Big D's Big Dog Rehab.
