I could share about my own bond with my nonhuman family members, but I think the bond between one of them and my mom is super special My mother and my 7-year-old adopted cat, Trixie, bring out the best in each other. Their connection has been so wonderful for my mom's well-being. She absolutely adores Trixie, and they get to bond when she comes to visit, house-sit, or during times she's stayed with me post-op. I love the way she lights up in a whole new way when she's feeding or playing with Trixie. It's so funny to see them "talk" and play their scattered version of hide-and-seek. They have so much fun together, and it helps keep my mother active and smiling!

The most loving embrace I had ever seen was between my friend and her cat! Before then, I had no idea that cats could be so affectionate. I never grew up around any myself, so I am very appreciative of friends like her showing me how to interact with and show love to cats. This cat has been with my friend through so much, including higher education and moving to a new city all on her own. She calls her cat her ride-or-die! The power of pet companionship makes huge life transitions feel less daunting, and I always love hearing how a pet and their person have grown up together. I wish those two many more years together!
