Hi! We run a program called Shaina's Safe Haven, named after a volunteer who sadly passed away. The purpose of this program is to offer temporary foster care for people who are in a situation that does not allow them to care for their pets temporarily, such as a hospitalization, eviction, house fire, ...

I would love to be added! I had posted about Saina's Safe Haven that we at Sullivan County Humane Society have. As a nurse, I am always hearing about patient's pets and I tried to get the hospital I work at to help fund some sort of crisis fostering (they are the largest hospital in the state and have ...

I personally, as well as Sullivan County Humane Society, have dealt with many stomatitis cases. I've never heard of it being contagious or separated stomatitis cats for stomatitis. However, it is very common in FIV+ cats so it may be due to an underlying condition. Of the 20+ cats we have had with stomatitis, ...

At Sullivan County Humane Society, we have a program called Shaina's Safe Haven for the temporary foster of animals whose owners are experiencing homelessness, medical emergencies, domestic violence, or temporary loss of housing due to a tragedy. We have provided a haven for anything from 14 cats displaced ...

We are contacted by the social workers most of the time. I am a nurse at the hospital, and it is the only major hospital in the state that "owns" most of the small hospitals, so they all know me and call me for any patient's needs. I meet with the patients that are able to communicate with me, speak ...

Has anyone developed a good network for fospice (foster hospice) for unadoptable animals that are not yet at the point of needing to be euthanized? If so, who pays the vet bills?: Who decides when it is time to euthanize vs symptom treatment? ------------------------------ Cheryl Koenig Volunteer ...

We run a pet food bank and get most of our donations from the public. Whenever our shelves are bare we post it and ask for donations and tend to get a great response. We also have a few local businesses, like hardware store and farm stores that donate X number of bags a month. We also get a lot of open ...

I would try to sit down with some of the local shelters or email them a few times. I get contacts like this sometimes but am overwhelmed so lose track of it because I am not in need of that help at the moment. Next time I am in need of that type of help, I vaguely remember someone had mentioned being ...

We maintain a waiting list and provide them with a list of other possible shelters. We do offer assistance in other ways if we can-such as food to help them provide for the animal, free spay/neuter...depending on what the issue is, we will provide help if we can. We also tell them if the situation becomes ...

I'd love to get a copy of your rules as well as any research. I asked our hospital if we had a grant and was told no and that I'd have to find a donor who wants to support that effort. A lot of the animals we take in are to prevent the owner from going AMA (leaving against medical advice) We have a very ...

In addition to being the volunteer director of the humane society, I am also a nurse at the largest hospital in NH. Because of this, the hospital social workers contact me when there is a patient with a pet issue. Sometimes it is just providing the family with food to feed the pet while the owner is ...

We've never faced that for a foster home but definitely would not have the funds to cover that. I'd be of the mindset that if they wanted to foster that badly, they could cover their own fees-a donation on their part. Our foster contract does say if the foster animal does damage any of their property ...

We hold Bingo twice a year for prizes, not money. I would check your state's laws. In NH it is governed by the lottery commission. We had held multiple Bingos when all of a sudden, we received notice from the state if we held our planned Bingo the next day we would be fines. Apparently, we needed to ...

How would this travelocity for S/N work? Our emphasis is on S/N, however for the colonies that do exist we'd like to help ensure that they are better provided for. We run two low cost clinics a month, we TNR strays in our community, and we offer a Fix The Mom program to encourage people to temporarily ...

Wonderful! I miss my colonies. I mainly cared for Pearl Harbor, Tripler, Hickam, and Kalihi-my biggest colony was at the bowling alley there. I also used to trap over at Kaneohe MCB a lot. I worked with Christin Matsushige (I was so sad when she passed) and Tedra Villaroz with Joey's. I hope to visit ...

I am the volunteer director of a shelter in NH. A cause near and dear to me is TNR, I used to live in HI where I cared for 15 colonies of stray cats and TNR'd over a thousand cats. I have continued with my TNR efforts here. We are close to Dartmouth college and received this message yesterday " I am ...

We do spay pregnant cats, like others most are early pregnancy but there are some that we do know are pregnant. We do not have a vet on staff and have all of our animals spayed/neutered at the low cost clinics we hold for the public, twice a month. So, if we are able to get a the cat into a vet we spay ...

We list them as intakes and when, and IF, their owners return we list them as returned to owner. Sadly, I'd say about 90% of the time they generally do not return to get their pets back or contact us and we grant multiple extensions only to have them surrender the animal about 5+ months. ----- ...
