I am wondering if anyone here has heard of Veterinary or Animal Chaplaincy? I am a trined hospital chaplain, and have been offering Spiritual Care in various forms (schools, non-profits, hospitals) for 20+ years. I am working on brining chaplaincy to the Veterinary and Animal Caregiving/welfare world. There is a new organization: American Association of Veterinary Chaplains (aavchap.org), that I am a member of, with other professionals doing the same things.

Just curious, if this is something that anyone has heard of, or is this something that is of interest to those in the veterinary field?

Thanks for the question @Jill Sajec

At the 2024 International Veterinary Social Work Summit, Rocky Lucas, MSW, LICSW, and Scott Campbell Veterinary Chaplain presented, "Fostering Collaborative Care and Community Impact: The Synergy of Veterinary Social Work and Veterinary Chaplaincy". @Augusta O'Reilly, can you connect Jill/us (the forum) to those speakers?

thanks so much!  I actually have met with Scott Campbell, he is the founder of the AAVC. I am glad others have heard about this work. I am curious to hear if any actual veterinarians have heard of this or what they may think of integrating Chaplaincy/Spiritual care in some form to their practices.

Hi Jill, although I've never heard of veterinary chaplains, it makes perfect sense to me in how to help round out services for those in the field, those in relationships with animals, and the animals themselves.

Jill, I am a board-certified chaplain for humans through the Association of Professional Chaplains, AND a certified animal chaplain through the Compassion Consortium. Also a member of the American Association of Veterinary Chaplains. I'm happy to chat!
