  • 1.  Are your area's veterinarians against a low-cost spay/neuter clinic?

I know when our local low-cost, HQHV spay/neuter clinic was struggling to get started, many area vets were against it as they said it would be "stealing business" from full-service veterinarians.  They said it would be abused by owners who could afford to pay 'full-price' for a spay/neuter but wanted a 'bargain'.

    This article https://sheltermedicine.vetmed.ufl.edu/2018/09/16/study-nonprofit-spay-neuter/

is part of the on-going research showing that this is UNTRUE.  The majority of clients of low-cost spay/neuter clinics are, in fact, people who can't afford to have the surgery done at 'full price'.  The majority of patients are cats and dogs who would NOT otherwise be spayed/neutered.  Low-cost, HQHV spay/neuter clinics ARE helping in the fight to reduce and someday, end pet overpopulation.

They are a welcome addition to your community and can work in partnership with full-service vets quite easily!

In New York State, our (few) HVSN clinics are somehow forced by the veterinary lobby to serve ONLY low-income pet owners.  Middle or lower-middle class folks with multiple animals need not apply.  So, yes, those clinics serve low-income folks - who have previously been unable to afford veterinary services, not bargain hunters.
