Upon intake, our shelter does not hesitate to take animals who are sick, injured, or neglected to a local veterinarian.  We incur large medical expenses doing so.  Are there any resources or programs in Connecticut or local (New England, Connecticut)  or national grants for us to pursue to help fund these expenses?  Any strategies to help us more economically get veterinary assistance?  This is my first posting with Maddie's Fund.  Thank you.

    Hi

Do you get discounts from the vet that you use?  We have an agreement with a vet who gives us discounts with the understanding that we refer adopters (or anyone that asks us about vets) to him.  We also do fundraisers on givinggrid.com for medical needs, not for routine vet visits but for more serious medical issues.  They have a section for URGENT HELP.  We've done very well with this site.  It also helps if you have a large amount of people on your email list and visitors to your fb page, since you need to send email blasts for the fundraiser and post on fb.  At times you can even ask givinggrid to help your fundraiser get more views, and they may help.  They helped us with one fundraiser by posting it to their entire audience.  I hope this info helps.
