    We are super excited to announce that the Shelter Playgroup Alliance will be hosting an educational event focused on welfare, enrichment and LIMA-based playgroups!

    Who should attend?  Shelter staff, shelter volunteers, shelter leadership, dog day care staff, and dog day care leadership

    What will be presented?  Leaders and researchers in animal welfare, enrichment and inter-dog interactions will present research and strategies for enhancing animal welfare and inter-dog interactions, including play

    We will also roll-out the SPA shelter playgroup guidelines which support safe, “healthy play”, and limit the use of aversives.  Opportunities for live playgroup observation of the SPA guidelines will also be featured.

    Lisa Clifton-Bumpass will discuss animal empowerment, choice, and control as components of effective animal management and enrichment programs.

    Dr. Lisa Gunter will present on shelter animal welfare, her research on human-dog interactions, and improving animal welfare in shelters.

    Dr. Lindsay Mehrkam will describe her research on shelter dog playgroups, predictors of inter-dog aggression, and discuss animal enrichment programs.

    The $300 registration fee also covers a daily light breakfast and on-site lunch.  Space is limited to 120 participants.

    This event has been approved for 14 CEUs for trainers and 8 CEUs for behavior consultants by the CCPDT.  The IAABC has approved the event for 22 CEUs for its certificants.
