Is there a comprehensive list of conferences around the US? Would you be willing to share which conferences you attend? I'm aware of The Association's, Best Friends, and Expo.

I don't know of any place that has a comprehensive list, so I'm going to be keeping an eye on this thread in hopes of some new resources!

There are listings maintained by major organizations (for example, HSUS's Animal Sheltering website, or ASPCAPro) of the events they are part of running, but from what I've seen, they don't generally promote "competitor's" events. Those are still a great place to find info, but you kind of have to check them all. These listings also don't always have smaller, one-day events, which are sometimes more accessible for small shelters/rescues.

The only conf. I've attended is the ASPCA Cornell Maddie's Shelter Med Conf.: https://www.aspcapro.org/training-conferences-events/aspca-cornell-maddies-shelter-medicine-conference which is in Ithaca, NY. It is excellent, and very inexpensive for shelter staff/volunteers to attend. (Costs are higher for vets and techs.)

HSUS has a Trainings + Events page where you can post your events (at no charge) or search for events to attend. This includes large conferences, small one-day trainings, online webinars, etc. https://www.animalsheltering.org/trainings

I also do not know about a comprehensive list, so following to learn more!

What region are you in? I know there are a lot of smaller, regional conferences that might not get as much "publicity" as the national events but can have excellent content. We host a small, local/regional conference every year here in New Mexico (the New Mexico Humane Conference). And in our region, the other events I know about (although have not gotten to go to yet) include Texas Unites for Animals (https://www.texasunites.com/the-conference/) and the Colorado Animal Welfare Conference (https://www.cfawa.org/cpages/annual-conference). NACA also hosts events in our region frequently, and their annual conference moves and is in Reno this year.

I've attended Expo, which was awesome. Mostly, though, have been to topical conferences for Humane Education and behavior/training.

Adding to Helen's list, Alley Cat Allies is doing "Every Kitty, Every City" conferences around the country. Best Friends does regional conferences. Be sure to sign up as a Best Friends Network Partner to get on the email list for those along with monthly emails updating goings on in your area, opportunity for grants, ResQwalk and Strut Your Mutt. Also, Best Friends and HSUS representatives in or near your area will come to you...they offer expert speakers on a variety of topics. I don't think there is any fee for that and it can be very impactful if you invite public officials. Don't forget Maddie's University -- scads of self-paced learning on any topic you can imagine.

A good resource for listings & reminders is the ASPCAPro calendar (published quarterly). It also lists webinars, major & minor holidays & awareness like "Nation Mutt Day", "National Dog Biscuit Day",  "National Pet Poison Prevention Week" etc. and lists suggestions for promotions or events to coordinate with the themes.

I recently attended the Best Friends Southeast regional Summit. One of the resources provided was this Humane Animal Control Manual. Very comprehensive...might be useful for talking points, local instruction & validation of concepts. It can be downloaded from their website (but use search engine because link printed on cover doesn't seem to work yet). E-version attached.
