Animal Welfare Professionals

For about six years we have been operating as a foster-based rescue in Brooklyn, NY, and this year we finally were able to open up a shelter. We want to add a veterinarian to the staff. However, we're not sure how the legalities of it work. And so far we weren't able to find a lawyer that is familiar with the process concerning shelters and veterinarians. We have questions such as these:  Can non-professionals hire a professional? How does insurance work? Can we provide low-cost services to the local community?   And a few more.  Would anyone be able to point us in the right direction?    Thank you, Mariya

Suggest you contact Independent Animal Rescue, where I volunteer, here in Durham, NC.  They have some volunteer veterinary help for spaying and also work with local vets.  Try contacting them with your concerns/questions.
