- Andrew Rowan - there are two other groups working in Afghanistan - Afghan Stray Animals League started by Pam Constable, a Washington Post reporter and the London-based Mayhew. The Mayhew hired an Afghan vet back in 2010 and they have been running a Kabul-wide vaccination and sterilization program. The Mayhew is using the surgery facilities at the Afghan veterinary school and has been training young Afghan vets. Before the Taliban take-0ver, the Mayhew had persuaded the Kabul municipality to stop culling dogs (in 2017) and they retrained the municipal workers to do dog counts and dog vaccinations. We have a story on our website about two of the Mayhew vets (both women) - go to www.wellbeingintl.org and search for Afghanistan.
- Nancy McKenney - Pamela Constable, who also worked in Afghanistan for many years. She started the Afghan Stray Animals League in Kabul. Hired veterinarians, built a s/n clinic and brought animals stateside.
- Lisa Pearce - Prosperity Candle is also directly supporting women in country as well as those transitioning in the U.S.

----------------- Original Post ---------------------------------
We have a packed lineup of guests to talk about the latest critical issues facing animal welfare
on this Friday's national call.
First,
Brad Shear, CAWA will talk briefly about
Nowzad, the animal rescue organization in Afghanistan, and the efforts to get animal rescuers safely out of the country to the UK.
Second, we'll be joined once again by
@Steve Zeidman of
Pethealth, who will share the July data. The numbers from July are even more concerning and Steve points to a significant reduction in transport as one cause. Shelters are officially more full than they were in 2019, and Steve will show us the data and the trends that could point to a growing problem.
