Amy-Jo,
Thank you for this post. From my experience when I did some volunteer groups with kids under 18 it became a bit of a challenge. There were certain liabilities that our organization faced if a minor became bitten, scratched or even attacked by a pet. I found it hard to make this a thing because of so many rules and legalities the parents had to be present at all times if the participant was a minor.
I definitely feel tlike this is a good avenue to explore. I also feel that there would be some additional training , support and monitoring as this would be very new to them and the expectation would be for them to perform at a certain level since they would be considered employees and are being paid.
I would love to hear how this works out. Please keep us posted.

Subject: Minors in non-animal handling positions?
Hi All,
We are looking for any agency (preferably municipality) that currently hires 16yo people to perform various tasks within the shelter. The positions don't have to handle animals. We have created about 4 job descriptions that would allow for interns and or seasonal positions to be filled by a 16yo individual. In order to assist with getting it approved by our City's Risk Manager, we are hoping someone is already doing this :o)
