    Hi Everyone,
     
    I'm looking for recommendations for working with a shelter dog that fixates on certain items. It is typically anything wooden (sticks, pooper scoopers, etc.) or metal (kennel latches, control poles, etc.). It isn't always clear what he is going to choose and sometimes he can be redirected if he is at a lower threshold. When he is outside, he can rarely be re-directed. He will bite the item and not let go for any reason.
     
    He is currently on Rx Fluoxetine 50mg by mouth once daily long-term.
     
    Could anyone suggest other medication or a specific behavior treatment plan for this issue?

    Canine compulsive disorder can we challenging to treat.  It can respond to meds but doesn't always.  Lower stress, lots of enrichment, and  foster home if possible, and behaviorist.
