  • 1.  Tips for Hosting a Lunch & Learn Event - Advice Needed!!

    Posted 03-17-2023 01:24 PM

Hi all! We are hosting a Lunch & Learn event in May to connect with professionals who our potential clients use.

We are an organization that helps pet parents plan (ahead of time!) to make sure their pets are cared for in case the pet parents pass away. We want to connect with estate planners, and other professionals in that space to let them know that #1) our organization exists and #2) what we do & how we do it.

So! We are planning this Lunch & Learn to introduce ourselves and let them know a bit about us.

    Questions for the community:

    1. How to get invitees to RSVP and attend?
    2. How to make this a memorable event?

Thanks for any input you have!!

We recently hosted a Lunch n' Learn at my organization. I think these details helped our first few be successful:

    • We chose to specify that our event was a "no-ask" event meaning that people are not expected to give money (this time).
    • We emphasized quality invites. I'm a little bias on this regard b/c its my specialty but, I think having a professional looking invite really goes a long way in making a great first impression and getting potential attendees to consider learning about your work. It's my opinion that it helps to be "on their level" so to speak. Maybe even include images of a success or positive moment in your work to really get the heartstrings going.
    • If your organization houses animals, use them! People have short attention spans but, they'll stay put if it means they get to see a kitten. We found bringing in a dog for a little break really made that connection and got people engaged (even after the dog left).

    Hope this helps!

Thanks Wyatt! We held our event at the beginning of May and it turned out great, but I love your ideas. Ours was held at the new Humane Society facility here in Charlotte - it's amazing. But it wasn't "open". They have a couple days every month where they do all employee meetings and the whole thing shuts down. We weren't able to give our attendees a tour, which is actually a big draw. So first lesson - make sure they are open when scheduling events! We ended up doing an interactive team trivia game at the beginning (these were estate planners, lawyers and senior care professionals). This was a fun way to keep everyone engaged. Overall, it was a really successful event and I'm looking forward to the next one already. I definitely want to incorporate your ideas for next time. Thanks so much!
