Subject: Animal Welfare Leadership Roundup Call - Friday, 6/4/2021 - African American Animal Advocacy Post-Civil War
After a short break for the Memorial Day weekend, we're back tomorrow at 8am PT with our Animal Welfare Leadership Roundup call!
We're excited to announce our guest speaker for this Friday's call, Dr. Paula Tarankow.
Dr. Paula Tarankow is a historian of the United States who specializes in the origins and development of animal welfare in the nineteenth-century United States. Her dissertation is titled "Loyal Animals, Faithful Slaves: Animal Advocacy, Race, and the Memory of Slavery" (Indiana University, 2019). For the past two years, Paula has taught at Smith College in Massachusetts, where she taught a course on animals in America. Her talk will feature a discussion of African American animal advocacy within the broader historical context of animal protection after the U.S. Civil War.
So grab your coffee, tea, water or other beverage of choice and round out your week alongside dozens of others on this national call! ☕️
