  • 1.  Are you a FeLV-Friendly org?

    Posted 08-10-2021 09:54 AM
    Hi all,

I am creating a resource of "FeLV-Friendly" shelters and rescues across the country that can accept and/or help with feline leukemia positive cats. At APA!, we are constantly inundated with requests to accept FeLV+ cats from around the world. In an effort to reduce transport stress and needless euthanasia, we'd like to have a resource guide of other organizations that can possibly assist these cats.

If you would like to be added to this resource list, please reply with your org name and website or other contact info.
And if you WANT to start helping these cats but don't know how, ask me!

    Thanks so much!

Eden Animal Haven is a cage-free, no-kill shelter for cats. We have one room dedicated to FeLV+ cats.  Although it's usually full, we can sometimes accept FeLV+ kitties. We're in Brighton MO near Springfield.

Our organization does strictly TNVR and does not have an adoption program.  However, we do find ourselves with FeLV kitties from time to time that need to be placed with no local resources to place them.  We do well getting homes for them through word of mouth, social media, etc.  But sometimes we do need outside resourcess.  Monica, how can we access this list when it is complete?

I have never dealt with FeLV cats but have been encouraged to euthanized. I TNR or adopt out kittens and free roaming cats. Can you tell me your viewpoint? much appreciated.

    Hi Monica,

I hope this 3-part article on FeLV  from The National Kitten Coalition is helpful to shelters and rescues.
