Abandoned pups - URGENT INFO, Please

    Hi Animal Advocates,

    I have an urgent situation that is far outside my personal and professional wheelhouse and need input!

    Three puppies were thrown away in a tub on a curb trash pile.  I found them and they do not seem feral though they are VERY wary and thin (all body bones pronounced).  I sat with them until the Sheriff (my county animal control) arrived to transport them to the town vet. With this, the County took "ownership", refusing me access to the pups.  Here is what I know:

    1. The pups are likely 6-7 weeks old, two  males and a female.  One of them has diarrhea and the vet suspects Parvo but not sure;
    2. The breed is unknown and the vet declares "Boxer". I am dubious.
    3. The County will hold the pups for a week for the owners to claim them.

    So, here is the dilemma.  Initially  I felt I'd bring them to my home but I am not sure it is feasible:

    1. My two Blue Heelers are very protective and they can fight.  One is a senior with some canine dementia. The other was rescued at age 2 from an intentionally abusive home.
    2. My dog door is Heeler sized.
    3. I am a full care giver for my husband plus solely responsible for the  horses in my 501c3 Rescue, and our 45 acres.

    I know nothing about dogs except for Heelers and Greyhounds. I know nothing about integrating pups this young and this compromised with my Heelers. I know nothing about caring for 3 young pups simultaneously.   I am, however, willing to do whatever i need to give this dogs a good life if need be.  I question their future otherwise. I live in county with ZERO animal protection laws/ordinances; in fact, animals are "property" pursuant to ordinance.  I worry about these pups ending up, again, thrown away.

    I have 5 days to decide how to proceed.

    I  need input from you amazing people!

    Gratefully,  Cindy
