I am beyond distressed to see posts on Facebook this morning in regards to a shelter in MI who has or is threatening to euthanize 40 healthy, fully vetted puppies as the transport they had to the east coast was cancelled.
They state they have ALREADY EUTHANIZED pups that were not good with other dogs - this is NOT ACCEPTABLE at all.
Whilst as a rescue who started off in Texas for 5 years and relocated up to Maine in 2016 understands the difficulty, lack of support, lack of funding, lack of fosters and adopters and having to deal with shelters from all over the south emailing desperate pictures of dogs and cats that are going to be killed " if we don't help" or the daily onslaught of emails from people who have adopted dogs from shelters, but can't deal with them and don't want to take them back to the shelter - all of this is NO excuse to euthanize healthy pets.
If need be, there should be a media post, reaching out to the larger, funded and heavily supported organizations like Best Friends, Pets Alive and places like this forum. Last resort is they are surrendered to a shelter, that will have more support and more outreach to be able to get help.
I have no other information than what I have read and heard other's discussing, it was said that the person running the "rescue" is a veterinarian, but I do not know that for fact, but makes sense that the thought and cost to euthanize healthy pups is not a concern as they will be able to do it themselves.
I hope someone with Maddies Fund or a bigger organization can reach out to this rescue and help those innocent animals. I also believe the rescue should no longer be allowed to operate. We all get over-whelmed and there is very little support for rescue's yet there is a heavy burden of shelters and southern rescue's depending on them and it is getting over-whelming.
I am going to make a separate post about the struggles of rescue and how the shelter system doesn't work for rescue's which makes the level of support a lot less - but I have to go back to the kennels - I just had to post this in hopes someone can reach out.
If anyone finds any information or is able to organize something, then please let me know.
I am not posting as anonymous, which I did consider so that I wouldn't be bashed for sharing, because my concern is those puppies and any other animals that need help.
