    Happy Sunday!

Our organization was contacted by the recently formed SC dogfighting law enforcement division three days ago about 32 Pitbull type dogs living on chains in a suspected dogf!ghting situation.  The owner had agreed to give up custody of the dogs on the spot but unfortunately that meant that the local animal control would be forced to process them as strays and immediately euthanize because the small local shelter was overflowing. Luckily law enforcement reached out to us and our Canine Behavioral Consultant was able to be onsite within a few hours. Every single dog was happy to see people and stoked to get off of those heavy chains!

So far we've been able to assess them for urgent medical needs, fully vaccinate everyone, transport all dogs to trusted boarding centers and get professional pictures taken by a volunteer photographer.  We're beginning the process of getting each dog to the vet for a full exam,  heartworm testing and to be spay/neutered beginning on Tuesday.

Our organization's role in this process is to get the dogs out of immediate danger, get them fully vetted and give them a chance to decompress so that we can really get to know each pup. Our next step will be finding transfer partners that are willing to accept a dog or two into their programs and assist these deserving pups in finding their happily forever after adopters.

What kind of information would most shelters and rescues like to have in order to give these dogs the best chance at being accepted as a transfer? Of course we always give the basics like weight, age, personality, and if dog friendly. Is there anything else that I can provide to help these great dogs get placed?

Oh, and if you're reading this and would like to learn more about the dogs please email me at amdames@yahoo.com :)

Some organizations might request PCR testing for Babesia gibsoni and other vector-borne diseases common in dogs for dog-fighting cases. But the biggest concern will likely be sociability to people, dogs, and other animals.
