    Good Morning,

The organization I am on the board for has a transport program in place.  We work with our partners in the Northern areas to identify dogs that are more likely to be adopted in their area than ours and work to get those wonderful pups to them.  This program was created under the idea that southern states tend to have more dogs that need homes than northern areas do, so to support our mission of a world where no dog is homeless we created this unique partnership and program.  We are seeing some dips in the number of dogs we are able to transport in the program but before we determine whether the program is sustainable, we need to invest in some assessment and support of the employee's efforts.  This post is to hopefully gain a little of both through other professionals on the site.  Do you find that there are certain dogs in your areas that are adopted better than others?  If you are a shelter or rescue in the north, are you finding that you have more dogs up for adoption than before?  The numbers seem to indicate everyone is having trouble getting these lovable babies forever homes.  Is anyone on here interesting in partnering in a transport program if it seems to fit their goals?

    Look forward to the discussion!

We're constantly looking for Northern shelter or rescue partners to assist with placing adoptable dogs from the south too. It seems like the smaller dogs (35 lbs and under) are in the most demand but I'm sure that it depends on the area. One thing that has hindered our ability to transport dogs to northern states is recent regulation changes that require dogs transported from out of state to be quarantined. Many of the northern rescues and shelters don't have the space to do this so I've also been trying to find quarantine facilities that could help.

That's very interesting.  I would love to hear more about the quarantine facilities and how that's going.  Where are they located?  What is their set up, are they solely quarantine?  If you want to talk offline, maybe there's a chain of transport we could support?  Florida to the North is far, maybe we can save more dogs through some kind of formal chain?
