Apologies if this is in the incorrect category...was having a hard time choosing which one to post under.
Happy holidays, everyone! I wanted to share with you a little recipe for pill pockets that I came across. Proper credit goes to the website listed on the photo, but I did want to pass it on for anyone who might have a lot of medications to pass out. We have a lot of special needs and seniors, so we have a lot of daily meds to dispense. It's been a huge relief on the financial pocket...and fun to make! (of course you can always use canned food but this is much less messy!)
For fosters, this works great. For shelters with higher numbers, it may be a good idea to get volunteers to make it for you, and then you can freeze until use. But it's so cost effective and easy, that I hope it will help some of you.
TIPS:
- This particular amount makes very little and the number of treats made is probably more for tiny dogs (we do giants and large dogs, so it didn't give us much). We just transfer the amounts to cups and it makes plenty...meaning use a cup vs. tablespoon.
- I make them round balls instead of poking the hole, simply for convenience...they spread around the pills perfectly.
- Also, we use regular peanut butter, not crunchy - don't be stingy on peanut butter b/c that's what makes it so smooth and pliable. **Just make sure the peanut butter DOES NOT have Xylitol!**
The pups love them! Hope you will, too! Enjoy!
