The recording of the first Return to Home Challenge is now available to watch on-demand: https://youtu.be/TMOxMCHGIbA

Thanks to our guest speakers @Bobby Mann and @adan parra for sharing examples on ways their organizations empower animal control officers to return animals in the field rather than at the shelter and low-cost ideas to ensure all animals in the community have identification.

During the huddle, Bobby shared this handy link to a Return to Home Cost Savings Calculator that allows you to show the fiscal impact of RTH outcomes. The formula used to calculate cost-savings per RTH outcome is the following: LoS Difference * Daily Cost of Care + One-time Cost = Money Saved. https://tomkreker.github.io/rth_calculator/

Information to enter to determine cost
During the huddle, Sean Dempsey asked attendees in the chat, "What is the average at your shelters of strays per year?" Please comment below what your organization's average number of strays are so we can get an idea of what other organizations are dealing with. And if you have any questions for our presenters, feel free to comment them on this thread!

Our next huddle is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept 14 at 12pm PT/3pm ET where we will hear from Holly Reycraft (Castle of Dreams Animal Rescue Inc.), @Aldwin Roman (Charleston Animal Society) and Stefani Buzzard (Contra Costa County Animal Services) on how their return to home polices and lost/found techniques are marketed to the community and how technology is used to help reunite pets and owners.
