  • 1.  IMPA OR HOD diseases

    Posted 19 days ago

Has anyone dealt with Great Danes with either IMPA or HOD disease?  We have two danes with IMPA and one with HOD and has been challenging to get medication and lifestyle dialed in.
Lexi and Levi have IMPA, seen a specialist and working on keeping them at a healthy weight and symptoms minimal.
Odin has HOD and we are still working on his medication but seems to be doing ok.
    Any input would be appreciated.

    Hi Cathy,

I haven't worked with Danes with IMPA or HOD but have worked with other breeds/dogs. What questions do you have?

I'm a veterinarian whose own dog had IMPA about 20 years ago. I'm a believer in trying eastern medicine when western medicine can't cure and is only treating symptoms. Definitely something to consider trying if you have access to an integrative vet med clinic.  My dog responded really well and was off all immune supressing meds within two months, and i've seen it happen with others too.

    Hi,

I'm with Giant Paw Prints Rescue and these diseases are new to me.  We have two danes with IMPA and one with HOD.
Lexi and Levi both seem to grow bumps and they burst, is this common?   Something else going on?  Levi is not on meds and eats very well.
Lexi is being weaned of steroids and is a very picky eater.  She gets fed three times a day.
They are owner surrenders as they just didn't want to deal with the issues and the cost.  :(

    Any info would be welcomed.
