    Hello fellow animal advocates,

I volunteer with a non-profit organization that inserts microchips at a monthly event. We average 50-60 chips a month. We have a decent system down now that moves the process along well. My question is how to get more people there. We have the capacity to do up to 100 chips per event, and we hit that goal once. We have changed location 3 times now, and the first event at each of those locations always has a larger turnout. The numbers then dwindle from there. We use nextdoor, facebook, and craigslist to advertise. I have attached the ad to this post. I was wondering if any of you have suggestions or experience with advertising for this sort of event, or any community support event really, and what has worked for you?

I appreciate any advice you have!

    Hi Amy,

What do you think about doing a raffle of some sort? You may have a limited number of people who were interested at each location; if most of them showed up the first time, fewer people would show up later. The raffle will only work if people are already interested in chipping but need a little nudge. I volunteer for a nonprofit run by a couple of vets and we do the same thing but for pets of the unhoused the attendance is pretty unreliable but most of these folks do not have transportation.  Sometimes, everyone showed up, other times no one showed. Does your nonprofit have a vet doing it? Fingers crossed your flyers work. Good Luck!

Thank you for your reply Julielani! We have vet techs inserting our chips. We have weekly online raffles, so that is a good idea. It wouldn't be hard to offer an incentive raffle to the event. I wonder if that'll encourage more people to come? Worth a try for sure!

    Hello Ginette,

:) It's amy.farner@gmail.com. I dont have an email through the nonprofit I volunteer with, so it's my personal email.

Since you asked, there must be others who are interested too. Maybe I'll create a video presentation to share with people who can watch it any time?

While we have the same struggles with low attendance to our events sometimes, I would suggest: Holding events in areas of your community that see high stray intake numbers. If possible, this could be within walking distance of the neighborhood, and you can consider canvassing door to door leading up to the event. Partnering with another organization (churches, schools, human service organizations, libraries) can help you spread the word to their constituents. Also, you can include additional information or links in your posts. Since not everyone is familiar with a microchip, we link to our FAQ page or make a statement on flyers like "a microchip is lifelong identification for your pet".

    Hi everyone,

I am curious if anyone of you are involved with microchipping pets for the unhoused. If their pets  originally are from shelters than can we assume the pets are chipped?  Are there any data regarding pets relinquishment with the unhoused individuals? Is there anyway to track that? Thanks in advance.
