Your vet will give you instructions about feeding. Generally they want you to stick to your pet's normal diet to minimize the possibility of GI upset. Usually they will give you a time the night before the surgery to stop food and water (ex no food or water after 8pm/10pm/midnight the night before) and will give you instructions upon pickup about how to feed in the evening after the surgery based on how your pet is doing (how fast they wake up, whether they have GI upset, etc).
I worked at a shelter for 12 years and concurrently at a vet for 10 years. We always went over the instructions verbally as well as giving out printed aftercare instructions. Don't hesitate to ask questions and take notes, each vet has their own guidelines to make sure your pet does as well as possible.
Good luck to both of you!

Subject: TPLO surgery on my senior dog
My senior dog will be having her TPLO surgery on Thursday. I was wondering if there's a specific food I should feed him before and after the surgery. Are there foods that he shouldn't eat after the surgery? Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks a lot! :)
