I rescue took a survey of the participants and are local pet food out what is important to our community. What the survey revealed is that quality pet food was the number one concern of my community the 2nd was affordable spay noodle service and the 3rd was access to routine veterinary care . Most often people think access means free and that is not sustainable.

What does access to veterinary care mean? How do you define it in a way that's suplortive of a community in need, without burning out your vets?

That is interesting survey results.   My organization happens to try to accomplish all three of these.  One of our programs is our affordable spay/neuter and wellness clinic which gives affordable (low cost) s/n and routine veterinary care.  We also have a community outreach program where we distribute dog and cat food to some human food distribution partners as well as we just held our first only Pet Food distribution at our facility.  We are finding that more and more people need help with feeding their pets and want to ensure that they have pet food so they can eat themselves.  It was a huge success and likely gave us an indication that we will do it multiple times a year so struggling pet owners get relief on pet food.
