Live and work at Catmandu, northern Nevada’s cage-free cat rescue and sanctuary. Spend your workday surrounded by cats and some of the nicest people you will ever meet, knowing that your efforts make a real difference in the lives of homeless cats.
This position is one of the most important jobs at Catmandu. It is critical to keeping the facility running smoothly and to the health and well-being of the cats. The tasks and duties are diverse. They include groundskeeping duties such as weed-whacking, leaf-raking, spider web eradication, watering trees and plants; lots of cleaning; organizing storeroom and supplies; performing minor repairs and upkeep to the facility; laundry; preparing and serving dinner 5 days a week; ordering and picking up supplies; keeping supply areas stocked and organized; helping to manage volunteers as needed; monitoring the health and well-being of the cats; socializing and interacting with the cats; assisting with the public through tours and adoptions if needed; and provide an on-site presence at Catmandu.
You must be a cat lover, with respect for their needs and individual personalities and requirements. Experience working with shy/scared cats is extremely helpful.
You must be friendly, able to work with a variety of personalities, a team player, and able to work well with volunteers and the public, sometimes in stressful situations. A calm demeanor and ability to handle problems and issues in a level-headed manner is crucial.
The on-site manager must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision. They must be observant, able to notice potential issues and problems, and see that they are fixed. A knack for problem-solving and thinking outside the box is very helpful.
Must be in good physical health, able to lift and carry at least 25 pounds, able to work on your feet for the majority of the day, able to lift, stretch, reach and carry. Ability to use basic hand tools and/or willingness to learn is required.
Organizational skills are a must. There are many moving parts to Catmandu and keeping supplies etc stocked, organized and in their proper place is critical to the smooth functioning of the organization.
The position is primarily 5 days a week, 8 hours a day. A few extras minutes here and there after hours to close windows or give a dose of medication is sometimes required. In exchange, you will have a 800+ sf private residence with all utilities, internet, and cell phone provided, plus a modest salary. You also receive the satisfaction of knowing your efforts are making life better for homeless cats and making one corner of the world a better place (Priceless!)
