Covid-19 Community Resources

The coronavirus pandemic in 2020 changed the way we approached almost every aspect of our lives. Members of the animal welfare community came together from the comfort of their living rooms/Zoom rooms to discuss how we should address the impact of the pandemic on the pets in our care and in our communities.

Fostering During the Covid-19/Coronavirus Pandemic Group

Due to Covid-19 emergency foster care quickly became a lifeline to shelters that were experiencing overcrowding and economic hardships as staff members are unable to come in. This group was created in an effort to share information resources with Maddie's Fund Foster Coordinator, Kelly Duer leading the way by hosting huddles and answering questions on launching or expanding your emergency foster program.

Community Conversations

The pandemic, along with social injustice, has motivated our industry to take a look at how we partner with our communities and confront our own biases. Shelter and rescue organizations across the country began talking on a weekly basis, offering support and innovative ideas to do things differently.

Maddie’s Fund began hosting hour-long Zoom calls twice a week in March. While these calls started out as a response to COVID-19, it’s grown into so much more. These calls are a safe place to discuss uncomfortable topics, all while sharing a common goal of preserving the human-animal bond.

These calls will continue beginning January 4, 2021. You can catch up on past calls by watching recordings here or visit the Events page to add upcoming calls to your calendar.
