Subject: Animal Welfare Leadership Roundup - 3/18/22 - Best Friends Survey, High Volume Play Groups in Shelters & A Funding Conundrum
Updated 3/18 at 2pm: Recording now available!
Hello!
We have a couple of important things to share with you including a big dog resource every animal shelter needs at this moment and a survey opportunity by Best Friends so we can get a better grasp on the real situations in America's shelters as we enter the busy spring and summer seasons.
TOPIC 1: A FUNDING CONUNDRUM: We will be joined first by @shannon glenn of My Pitbull is Family to briefly finish out the conversation we started last week and Shannon will leave the group with a question about an increasingly widespread challenge - How do groups that do not intake and outcome pets but rather focus on helping pets and people get funding and support?
TOPIC 2: HIGH VOLUME PLAY GROUPS IN SHELTERS: Then we'll move to a presentation by @Aimee Sadler of Dogs Playing for Life about the impacts of playgroups and how the data they've collected over several years gives us important lessons about our future ability to help high volumes of dogs in shelters. You'll have the ability to ask questions and we invite fans and skeptics alike to hear about what the data tells us about playgroups.
This segment has been moved to next week's 3/25 meeting
TOPIC 3: USING SIMULATION MODELING TO BEST MANAGE COMMUNITY CATS: Last, we'll learn about the latest research regarding the humane management of free-roaming cats. An interdisciplinary team modeled costs and population impact to provide insights on how to most effectively implement TNR and save the maximum number of cats' lives. The simulation findings are relevant to shelters, TNR programs, and animal grantmakers.
