UPDATED 6/18 at 1:55pm PT: Recording is now available to watch & share below!

We are looking forward to seeing you for the Friday Animal Welfare Leadership Round-Up Zoom call June 18th at 8am PT.

Tomorrow is going to be a chill meeting for us to catch up with each other, share what's happening in our neck of the woods, and talk about a couple of sticky problems we're still struggling to solve. This is a perfect call for new participants so please invite a friend!

We'll be joined by @Lisa LaFontaine of Humane Rescue Alliance who will be bringing a little piece of animal welfare history from 1995 to kick off our conversation about the seasonal nature of our work and stress.

We'll also talk about the eight ways barriers are showing up in animal shelters today and if it's true, as one professional postulated, "If we got rid of barriers, we might just have solved the problem."

Plus, we'll hear updates from our national organization partners about opportunities and events like the upcoming Best Friends National Conference, which is next week!

Register for the Friday calls and come back to this post to access the recording, resources shared and to ask any follow up questions or comments.

You can catch up on any previous calls by visiting the Community Conversations page here on the forum located under Events.

Thanks to those who joined this morning's call! We had a slight update to the agenda with lots of great discussion. For those who were unable to attend, have no fear, the recording and resources are here!

Kristen opened the call with the question - If you could be anywhere today (but here), where would you be?
My answer to that has got to be Puerto Rico!  There were lots of mentions of other beachy locations in the chat, how about you?

As always, feel free to watch the recording, browse the agenda and explore resources that were shared by attendees:

    Agenda

    • Welcome – Kristen Hassen, Director, American Pets Alive! -
      hassen@americanpetsalive.org
    •  QOTD – if you could be anywhere in the world, where would you be?
    • NO MEETINGS Friday July 2 or Monday July 4
    • Mary's Motivation –
      • The Association's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee has launched a historic, first-of-its-kind survey.
      • All of us in animal welfare need to complete the survey and encourage our teams and colleagues to complete it.
      • The results of this survey will help create a strategy of the work that lies ahead for us to make animal welfare a more diverse and inclusive profession.
      • In order to get the most complete picture, we need to hear from everyone working in animal welfare from front line staff and officers in the field to fundraising staff, adoption counselors and managers
    • Sara Pizano, Team Shelter USA – The Best Practice Playbook for Animal Shelters "Our own fears are a barrier to keeping pets with people."
    • Amy Nichols announces new Executive Director for Shelter Animals Count :  Stephanie Filer of Animal Rescue League of Iowa
    • Lisa LaFontaine, President and CEO, Humane Rescue Alliance: the seasonal nature of our work and stress. Focus on the power of your own voice and you can find a sense of hope and empowerment.  Do not feel dispirited – people are coming to us means we have succeeded. It's clear animals are family – that means we have succeeded.
