Animal Welfare Professionals

Apologies if this is the wrong place, brand new to the forum. I foster out of NC for a few local groups (dogs) and our county shelter (dogs and cats). I know things are not great where I'm at but our community does amazing things everyday.

Recently I traveled to Bay County FL to visit my dying father. I have not been here in close to a decade. I have tried to turn off my rescue brain so I could focus on my father. Unfortunately I have walked right into a horrible cat crisis. I am aware of a litter of kittens about to be split up and put out on different properties. The last litter they did that too promptly disappeared.  They are not weaned and not vetted. That is the way of things down here it seems. I have spoken to MANY rescues here and the local spay clinic. They are telling me Bay County has some of the worst euth rates in all of the state. 

The rescues are saying that it is partly a lack of education but partly they are still suffering fallout from the hurricane that ripped through here 8 years back (the humane society is still shuttered). Apparently everyone's hands are tied in regards to these kittens. I leave back for NC Friday and have been networking the best I can to no avail. Not sure what else to do.

If I had space and resources (same issue everyone else has ) I would gladly take them back to NC with me. That said, none of the rescues I work with can help because they only do dogs or are limited to county borders. I am currently paying for medication and care myself for one of my shelter fosters and took on a medical case no one else would (I actually committed before I knew he was medical and before I knew I would be winging it on my own but once I commit, I commit. No rescue backing and so I'm definitely at my limit).

Any ideas or extra resources in this area would be appreciated. Ultimately, I figure I will likely head back home without a resolution for these kittens but at least I will know I tried.
