Sometimes catnip works or playing kittens crying on your phone.  I hope that helps.

What type of trap are you using? Drop traps are a game changer if you can get your hands on one. Mackerel or Popeyes chicken has been my most successful bait recently

I bought a FatCat trap. Its bigger than the others. Because in general, the females are smaller, it is less enclosed feeling.
I've had the best luck catching females when they are in heat or when they are in the last few weeks of pregnancy. In both cases, I find them eating more.

My situation may be a little different. I literally trap cats in my driveway lol. I've gotten 9 and found rescues to take 3 of those 9.

I also zip tie the trap open and feed in it for about 2 weeks prior to setting it. This helps them get used to going into the trap and also helps remove a lot of the human smell from it as it sits out there.  I use tuna fish, sardines, or wet cat food.

The last 2 females I got - were on regular ol cat food. Tali I've been after since February 2023 and just caught her 2 weeks ago. She was in heat (tom cats were circling) and hopped up and went in the trap. I literally teared up to finally catch her. In the 18mo I've been at my house, I know she's had at least 5 litters. The last 2 litters, she lost - not sure if it was a predator, weather, or had them where she couldn't get back to them.  I caught her sister Temperance in July. She was pregnant again and actually gave birth in my trap. Her 4 kittens went to rescue at 9wks and ... well.... I now have a new cat lol. She was feral, but mostly tamed out after being in a dog crate in my house for 2 months.

The stinkier your "bait" the better. I've also heard of people using catnip.

I tried a drop trap but I don't have time to sit and wait for a cat to go under so I can pull the string so I gave up on that one pretty quickly.

All good advice!   Try to make sure no one else is feeding, and if you trap in the evenings don't feed breakfast and vice versa.  I'd say skip a day of feeding completely but then you'll for sure just get the boys <insert some kind of laughing face>
