Hi Everyone!
A couple things I would like to share. 1. If you need TNR appointments and are near the Cleveland, Ohio area, my rescue has 2 open each Monday in October at the Cleveland APL. They are usually around $55 including vaccine, rabies, surgery, ear tip and one month flea treatment. If interested please contact me directly at 216-296-4652.
2. If you are having a particularly hard time trapping a specific cat there are a few things you can try.
-Camouflaging the trap with natural cover, like leaves and branches, can sometimes seem less scary then a tarp or blanket to some cats.
-A drop trap may be necessary but be sure to practice this several times prior to the day you try to trap. Setting the trap off manually may be necessary if you do not have a remote or don't trust it. Personally, I find remotes risky for several reasons. However, the "string method" may be just as risky and can also malfunction on you. If the cat trusts you enough you may be able to directly set ut off by hand, but PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE FIRST!!!
-If the cat is still iffy, a drop trap may need to be rigged around a regular feeding site. Just be sure if you do this to leave enough room for the trap to close properly to avoid escape.
-HIGHLY recommend getting the transport cage specifically for whatever drop trap you have. Usually they are sold separately.
- Setting up a camera or baby monitor can be very helpful in observing the cat's behavior regarding the trap and even help with details like what ait they seem the most interested in.
*If you have any questions on anything I said here, are trying to find equipment, or are still in need of tips for trapping very difficult cats, feel free to contact me. I've had a lot of success, but it has taken a lot of patience, trial and error, and extreme determination. My number is listed above or you can also email me at ellysanimalrescue@gmail.com.
Best of luck and thank you for all you do!!!
