Bissell Fix the Future Program

    Hi!

Has anyone utilized Bissell's Fix the Future Program where they bring in relief vets and do low cost spay/neuter?  I'd like to find out more about the program and how it works before reaching out to them.

    Thanks!

    Hi Michelle -

Please feel comfortable reaching out to Kim Alboum at Bissell Pet Foundation. Kim is the Director of Field Operations and runs their Fix the Future program. Feel free to mention that I suggested you reach out to her directly.

We have and are currently still utilizing this program. It has been a great help.

    Hi Jason!

Are you using them to alter shelter animals or public animals? Do they typically come in for just a short term event (1-2 days) a few times a year or are you using them on a regular basis? We were recently made aware of a cat hoarding case with around 50 cats and as well several other community members wanting to surrender up to 20 cats each. We're lucky to have our own vet clinic but don't have the capacity to alter large numbers of cats like this and while we're working on getting them in they're going to be increasing in numbers. I wasn't sure if this would be something we could partner with them on or not. We used to work with a mobile spay/neuter vet who would come in around twice a year for 2 days each time to do public animals and we would also squeeze in some shelter residents but they're in high demand and we're having trouble scheduling with them. Any insight you could offer would be great.

    Thanks!

They are only altering shelter pets, and they come twice a week to do about 30 pets each time they are here.

We have been working with Bissell for a few months know. So far, it hasn't been too difficult. My only challenge is we have to find alternative ways besides charging the client to cover our hard costs. They only let you charge $25 for microchip/vaccine.

    Hi Tessah!

I'll apologize first because I have a lot of questions... 🙂 Are you using them to do public animals? What does the host organization have to provide? And what about staffing? I know they provide the vet but what about vet technicians or other medical staff? Am I correct in assuming that Bissell doesn't charge anything for their services since you mentioned only being able to charge $25 for microchip/vaccines?

Any insight you have is much appreciated!

If you haven't had a chance to review the following document that outlines the program and host requirements, it does offer some useful information and touch points about staffing that needs to be available.   Good luck!!

You provide all of the medications/ equipment needed. You also need at least 3 experienced people to keep the animals flowing to the vet. I know they list that they have some vet techs on board with Bissell that might help.

We are doing public animals and have been doing 5 dogs, 35 cats at each event. I have 2-3 staff from the shelter clinic, and then an additional 6-10 volunteers that help with check in, records, recovery, cleaning instruments, and getting pets sent home.

Bissell pays the vet directly, and you report numbers/ sign in sheet to Bissell. We have a point person that does all the communication with Bissel.

It doesn't hurt to reach out. They do an onboarding presentation before you have to sign any MOUs and are readily available to answer questions.

Hi! We're affiliated with BISSELL as well but honestly have found it a little difficult to navigate, so we haven't had the chance to use the Fix the Future Program yet. I'd also love to hear if anyone has direct experience with how it works!

    You might check out https://slombasheltersolutions.com/

I think she works with Bissell but also does her own pop up clinics.
